Lime Stabilisation at Monks Cross, York
T R Stabilisation have worked with Moorhead Excavations on many projects in the past, successfully completing Soil Stabilisation works to a high standard on a diverse range of contracts. When Moorhead Excavations were selected as the main Earthworks contractor on the Monks Cross Development for Caddick Construction, they once again contacted ourselves to carry out the required Soil Stabilisation works on this large development in York.
The site required a number of different areas be treated to varying strengths, including car parks, building footprints, haul roads and service yards.
Whilst some of the areas required a Lime Modified Bulk Fill with a CBR in excess of 5%, others required a Stabilised Sub-Base Replacement with a CBR in excess of 30%. Overall, in excess of 56,000 cu.m. of material was treated across this site.
Wirtgen WR2500SK & WR240K Integrated and Wirtgen WR2500S Standard machines were used on this site, along with our new TerraGator Powder Spreader.
The material was laid in 300mm deep layers by Moorhead Excavations ready for us to treat with Quicklime (for the Modified Bulk Fill) and a Quicklime and Portland Cement Mixture for the Stabilised Sub-Base Replacement.
Once treatment had taken place the material was compacted, trimmed to tolerance and then either covered with stone or a Bitumen Emulsion curing agent was applied.
The works ran on time with all areas treated to specification and programme.
