Soil Stabilisation at Coal Clough Windfarm
Due to the close proximity of this site to our Head Office we were the obvious choice when Farrans Construction were looking for an Earthworks contractor to undertake works on this contract in Burnley.
The project was to create a new Access Road to Coal Clough Windfarm for Scottish Power on the outskirts of Burnley, and, on this contract we carried out Bulk Earthworks along with Soil Stabilisation techniques.
What Was Done
The project required a topsoil strip over the entire site, a cut/fill operation and then Lime Modification to the sub-grade and fill material and a Stabilised Sub-Base Replacement with a Non-Frost Susceptible 30% CBR.
Over 40,000 sq.m. of site won material was treated with Lime and Cement on this site, saving costs (no exporting unsuitable material to landfill and importing costly aggregates) and reducing environmental impact (reduction in lorry movements and imported materials).
Once the road had been formed and treated it was then sprayed with a bitumen emulsion curing compound, ready to receive 100mm of Type 1 MOT to the surface.
Compliance testing was carried out throughout the works to confirm the required specification had been achieved and the contract ran to programme.
