Soil Stabilisation at Altham
The site was being developed by Whatmore UK to add to a large Industrial Park in Altham.
Due to the sites close location to our Head Office we were contacted by Whatmore UK and asked to visit site to assess the ground conditions and see what solutions we could offer them.
The first thing we did was to carry out site surveys to form levels and assess how much material would need to be excavated, moved and treated.
Samples were then collected and taken to an independent laboratory so a mix design could be carried out to determine binder additions.
It was decided that all material would be lime treated to CBR 5% to provide a "bulk fill" with the top 300mm being lime and cement treated to form a Sub-Base Replacement to CBR 30%.
Due to the location of the site being in the middle of an existing Industrial Park powder dust was an issue. To eliminate this issue our new Wirtgen WR2500SK fully integrated mixer was used on site.
Once works got underway a bulk earthworks operation was carried out to bring the site to correct levels with the Soil Stabilisation process following this.
After compaction and final trim the site area was treated with a K1-40 bitumen emulsion curing agent to the surface.
Compliance testing was carried out throughout the entire Stabilisation process and all works were completed on time and to specification.
