Soil Stabilisation | Riverside House, Centre Park, Warrington
Soil Stabilisation at Riverside House, Warrington
The area to be stabilised was part of a Marshalls plc development which has been ongiong over several phases, with business units being constructed throughout Centre Park, Warrington.
Our team had worked with EWS on several other projects in the past and this led to EWS contacting T R Stabilisation about providing the Soil Stabilisation works on this phase of the Centre Park development.
What Was Done
Samples were collected from 3 different stockpile materials on site. Stockpile 1 consisted of very wet, drenched material, Stockpile 2 consisted of a slightly drier material whilst Stockpile 3 was the best material on site. A design exercise was carried out by an independent laboratory and it was established that Stockpile 1 required 7% quicklime, Stockpile 2 required 3% quicklime and Stockpile 3 required only 1% quicklime to achieve a Modified Bulk Fill Material with a CBR of 5%.
Earthworks Solutions excavated the material from the stockpiles and then laid the material down in 300mm layers ready for us to treat with Lime at the required rate, repeating the process until all of the stockpiled material had been treated. The lime was applied to the area using a tractor towed Streumaster Spreader (with spread checks being carried out to confirm correct powder additions). This was then incorporated into the material using a Tractor Towed Mixer. The treated material was then compacted.
Compliance testing was carried out throughout the contract to confirm that the required CBR had been achieved.
