Lime Stabilisation at Normanton
Several contracts have established a strong working relationship with ourselves and Moorhead Excavations over the years, so when Moorhead’s were awarded the earthworks package on the Trident Park Development at Normanton, we were yet again given the opportunity to work alongside them carrying out the Lime Stabilisation works.
The contract, which was part of an industrial development at Trident Park and consisted of 2 different units, was a new project in a long line that Moorhead Excavations have carried out this type of work for Marshall Construction.
What Was Done
The specification was to treat the existing site material to provide a CBR of 5% at Sub-Grade level and also for the Bulk Fill Material.
After carrying out a sampling and design testing exercise a quicklime binder addition was established which would meet the required strength.
Once on site we used a traditional Soil Stabilisation technique, consisting of applying the binder to the surface using a TerraGator Spreader and then incorporating the material using a Wirtgen WR2500S Standard Mixer. The material was then compacted with a Hamm 3520HT Roller.
Overall we treated circa 30,000 sq.m. of material on this development and compliance testing (which was carried out throughout the works) confirmed that the specification had been met.
